Linger is a contemporary interpretation of the mbira.
The project began in 2016 through playing the kalimba, and later evolved through working with expanded forms of the mbira, informed by earlier developments of the instrument.
Over time, it has been refined to reduce size and weight while improving volume and responsiveness. The aim is to make it more portable and accessible, without losing the richness of its tone.
Each instrument is hand-built by a luthier using walnut and spruce, shaped through careful cutting and assembly to balance structure and acoustic resonance.
It can be approached in different ways. It may be played as a meditative instrument, used for experimentation, or simply exist as an object with its own sonic character.
There is no fixed method of playing. Each person can develop their own way of interacting with it through listening, touch, and personal rhythm.
